Joseph

Thousands of years before it was a sparkly West End musical, the story of Joseph was, and still is, an incredibly relevant and profound biography for those of us facing questions like:

“Why are my relationships so messy?”

“Why do bad things happen to good people?”

“Where is God in the midst of all this chaos?”

Joseph was born into a troubled family, betrayed by his brothers, enslaved, imprisoned, and then raised up to a position where he was able to forgive and save his family.

And incredibly, so much of Joseph’s life foreshadows Jesus’; he was rejected, only for him to be raised up to forgive and save the whole world. Both men are surrounded by evil but, at the same time, both speak of God’s hand working that evil into good. Joseph’s story tells us that God is working in the midst of what feels like chaos. We may not know the details but, like Joseph, we can trust that God does know. Moreover, one day we will be able to say with him that although the chaos in our world was meant for evil, God was working it all for good.
